About Me
I am a writer and an aspiring mental health practitioner. Along with my appreciation for language as a whole, I find that writing is both a mentally and physically soothing practice. I write to process and investigate life. Growing up as a high-masking autistic person, I used verbal communication as a tool for social acceptance and protecting myself. Unfortunately, this has made authentic self-expression through verbal communication somewhat inaccessible to me. As someone who processes and communicates information differently than the majority of people, writing makes the world more accessible to me, and me more accessible to the world. Writing gives me the means to reclaim my vulnerability and authenticity—two things that I have long sacrificed in favor of fitting in. In turn, this reclamation in my writing has helped me with self-acceptance and allowed me to contribute to larger conversations among communities that I share experiences with.
I enjoy writing fiction, essays, research papers, literary reflections, and general contemplations on life and its complexities. I seek to practice and normalize vulnerability and authenticity through my writing. This is especially important to me as an autistic self-advocate currently exploring what it means to unmask. In the field of mental health, I hope to promote vulnerability and authenticity as a strength on the path of healing and growing.
